The Key in the Stream

  1. Scene 1
    The narrow stone-lined irrigation stream ripples gently over smooth pebbles under golden light, garden fences lining the grassy banks.
    Nori the copper-and-turquoise turtle scuttles along the bank, his glowing aqua eyes fixed on something bright drifting in the current, while Maya and Omar hurry up behind him and Tala bounds along the fence rail.
  2. Scene 2
    The stream continues past neat garden plots, sunlight glinting on the water's ripples near a low hedge.
    Nori points a metal foreleg at the glinting golden-key-piece as it drifts past a hedge toward the orchard, and Maya, Omar and Tala all lean forward, tracking its path along the current.
  3. Scene 3
    Rows of apple trees stand beside the stream's edge, red fruit bright in the golden light where the water slows near a smooth pebbled shallow.
    Tala darts down the bank, dips her paws into the shallow water, and scoops up the golden-key-piece, holding it up triumphantly as Maya, Omar and Nori arrive at her side.
  4. Scene 4
    The apple orchard's open grass floor glows gold as the friends turn to head back toward the village.
    Tala hands the golden-key-piece to Omar, and the four friends race off through the trees together, heading back toward the clock tower.
  5. Scene 5
    Inside the round stone clock tower, brass gears and the tall lever stand beside the open bell mechanism, all lit by golden afternoon light through the arched windows.
    Omar leans over the open mechanism and carefully fits the golden-key-piece into its empty socket among the brass gears, while Maya and Tala watch closely and Nori stands ready by the lever.
  6. Scene 6
    The clock tower's gears and mechanism sit fully assembled, warmly lit by golden afternoon light.
    Nori pulls down the tall lever with his mechanical legs braced against the stone floor, and the brass gears begin to turn together, click after click, as the great bell shifts into motion.
  7. Scene 7
    The cozy cobbled village square spreads beneath the clock tower, lanterns strung between rounded terracotta cottages in the golden evening light.
    The great bell swings and rings out over the square as Maya, Omar, Tala and Nori burst out of the tower doorway, arms raised, while villagers' cheers rise from the festival stalls all around them.
